
The Glencoe Crimson Tide made the season opening trip to Central Oregon one to remember as they invaded the den of the Bend Lava Bears and came away with a solid 22-11 victory. The Tide set the stage early with a game opening 80 yard drive capped by a seven yard pass from Conor Lien to tight-end Kyle Kirwan. Kirwan missed the PAT and the Tide lead 6-0.The Tide defense forced three straight three and out stands against the Bend offense and then took a 14-0 lead after Nolan Degner scored on a one yard wedge play with 4:05 remaining in the first half. The Lava Bears scored late in the third quarter to make it anybody’s game at 14-11. However, Glencoe answered with another long drive. This time the Tide went 80 yards in 10 plays all on the ground with Kyle Hogan finishing the drive on a one yard run with 8:36 remaining. The Tide played solid defense the entire night including the fourth quarter stopping the Lava Bears on downs with five minutes remaining.
Glencoe will host Hudson’s Bay of Vancouver in its home opener Friday night September 5 at Hare Field. Kick off is set for 7:30 pm.
